Overcoming Fear

The Word of God gives us many promises that God will deliver us from fear and protect us in difficult situations. Here are just a few of those promises:

(1 Peter 3:14-16) But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened." But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.

(1 John 4:18) There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

(Psalm 91:14-16) "Because he loves me," says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation."

(2 Timothy 4:18) The Lord will rescue me from every evil attack and will bring me safely to his heavenly kingdom. To him be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

(Joshua 1:9 NRSV) "I hereby command you: Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

(Proverbs 18:10) The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

(Psalm 91:5-7) You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.

(2 Timothy 1:6-7 NRSV) For this reason I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you through the laying on of my hands; for God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.

(2 Thessalonians 3:3) But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.

(Luke 10:19) I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

(Mat 14:27) But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
